Recipes with Rose: Royal Jelly Smoothies

Recently, we sat down with Rose Balletta, BeeAlive President Jason’s wife, and started talking about our New Years’ resolutions - errr, the difficulty we all have keeping up with them. We all seem to think that the new year means a clean slate; an opportunity to recreate and better ourselves by changing our unhealthy or annoying habits. Sometimes unrealistic goals cause us to slip up and fall off the bandwagon a time or two... or twenty!

Rose, the mother of 3-year-old triplets, Jax, Julia and Evelyn, realizes more than anyone how life has a way of “getting in the way” of your plans. The days at home with your children are times to cherish, but can be a blurry whirlwind filled with activities and errands that make sticking to a healthy diet nearly impossible. Ordering pizza starts to feel so glamorous.

Now that the triplets are getting older, Rose decided that 2013 was the year she was going to embark on a 21-day detox diet and continue nutritional choices throughout the year. After speaking with the supermom, we decided to share her story of how she has successfully maintained her New Years’ resolution by implementing small, simple changes.

Rose’s diet began easy enough; a shake for breakfast (which usually meant blending uneaten fruits the kids had left with whatever vegetables were in the fridge), a healthy lunch of whole foods (that is, foods that are as close to their natural form as possible), followed by another shake for dinner. Two weeks later, after following the diet to a T, the triplets, and later their caring mother Rose, came down with a winter virus. For the sake of convenience, Rose’s diet went out the window.

When the family was feeling better, Rose wished to continue what she had started. She decided that, although she might not follow the “detox” program precisely, she would continue the fruit-and-veggie shakes for breakfast, while consuming nutritious whole foods throughout the rest of the day. After all, she is an active mother of three who needs sufficient energy to complete her daily BeeAlive and Mommy responsibilities.

Rose believes that a diet of whole foods helps to benefit overall health. After reading many mixed reviews on cleanse diets, Rose had an “Aha!” moment. She read a few sources that claimed detox diets can deprive you of energy, and realized: why not supplement the shakes with Royal Jelly?

Royal Jelly is a natural whole food substance used for increased energy, stamina and vitality. BeeAlive’s Pure & Natural Queen’s Royale Royal Jelly is the “food of the Queen Bee,” straight from the beehive with no artificial additives, sweeteners, colorings or flavors. A fifth of a teaspoon delivers an abundant 1,100 mg of fresh Royal Jelly. And at BeeAlive, our precious Royal Jelly is always fresh, never freeze-dried - because doing so can remove Royal Jelly’s beneficial properties.

So, Rose began adding two scoops of the Queen’s Royale to her morning shakes. She has continued the regimen for the past few weeks, feels wonderful and has accomplished some mega mommy milestones. Now, Royal Jelly can take time to work optimally in your body, which is why we at BeeAlive suggest a three-month supply of Royal Jelly to give you the best opportunity to optimize its benefits through consistent everyday use of the product. Rose takes her Royal Jelly daily and was eager to share some of her Royal Jelly shake recipes with you! May you “bee inspired” to start a Royal Jelly regimen of your own - you may already eat great, but just want to turbo charge your vitality by focusing on clean foods, drinking lots of water, getting adequate rest and supplementing with Royal Jelly. It’s never too late to start a new years’ resolution and sometimes small, simple changes (even temporarily) can make a huge, beneficial difference.

Royal Jelly Smoothie Recipes
We’ve included one recipe for a shake every day of the week (plus a bonus shake!).The following recipes make two servings each. You may either make the full recipe, and save half for later (store in fridge and use within 24 hours), or make half the recipe. Use BeeAlive's Pure & Natural Queen’s Royale or Sweet Energy Formula Royal Jelly for best results. Note: The Sweet Energy Formula will make your smoothie sweeter!

If possible, make your ice from pure filtered water. If you prefer your smoothies less chilled, leave out the ice. All fruit may be fresh or frozen. Rose recommends using organic fruits and vegetables in your smoothies, but if you must use nonorganic, please make sure to clean them.

If you're considering a detox diet, get the OK from your doctor first. Keep in mind that fad diets are not a good long-term solution. Detox diets that severely limit protein or that require fasting can result in fatigue. Long-term fasting can result in vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Dehydration also can be a concern. For lasting results, your best bet is to eat a healthy diet based on fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean sources of protein.
